Permission granted for revamp of William Morris Oxon home
A new on-site education centre is to be built at the grade I-listed Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire.Kelmscott Manor dates back to 1570 and was home to writer, designer and socialist William Morris from 1871 until his death in 1896.Carter Jonas secured planning permission for the education centre on behalf of the Society of Antiquaries of London.The 969 sq ft hub will be built on the south side of the farmyard. Work is set to begin in the second quarter of 2019.Permission has also been secured for conservation and refurbishment work, which will get underway in 2020. The house itself will be restored, along with the Stable Barn and Granary Building.
